Why choose Wise Owl Wills

27 years of legal experience focused on you and your family.

Wise Owl Wills was founded by Stephen Rhodes, who was called to the Bar in 1999 and has 27 years of legal experience. Having drafted Wills and dealt with disputes arising from poorly prepared or unclear Wills, Stephen understands both how these important documents should be prepared and what can go wrong when someone’s wishes are not expressed properly. You deal directly with Stephen throughout, from your first conversation to the completion of your documents.

Wise Owl Wills is an independent Will-writing and estate-planning business, not a barristers’ practice, and Stephen does not provide these services in the capacity of a practising barrister. Instead, you receive the benefit of his extensive legal knowledge and experience through a personal, approachable service, with clear explanations, fixed fees agreed in advance and no unnecessary legal jargon.

Whether you require a Will, Lasting Power of Attorney or Living Will, Stephen will take the time to understand your circumstances, explain the available options and prepare documents tailored to your needs and wishes. His aim is to make planning for the future feel straightforward and reassuring, while ensuring that you can make informed decisions with confidence.

A clear Will that reflects your life and your wishes

A Will gives you control over what should happen to your estate, who should deal with it and how the people you care about should be provided for. Without one, the intestacy rules decide who inherits. Those rules cannot take account of informal promises, personal relationships or the individual reasons behind your choices.

I help people throughout Bury put properly considered arrangements in place. This includes individuals and couples making their first Wills, parents choosing how children should be provided for, homeowners considering trust provisions and families whose circumstances do not fit a standard template.

Every Will is prepared personally. I take time to understand your family, property and priorities, explain the available options in plain English and agree the fee before any drafting begins. You will not be directed through an automated Will builder or left to choose legal clauses without guidance.

A Will deals with what happens after your death. If you also want to choose who could make financial, health or welfare decisions during your lifetime, or record particular medical treatments you would refuse, I can prepare Lasting Powers of Attorney and a Living Will as part of the same planning exercise.

Professional Will writing across Bury

Bury contains a wide mix of communities, from town-centre streets to semi-rural villages on the edge of the West Pennine Moors, but the question that matters is personal: if something happened to you, would the law hand your home and your savings to the people you’d actually choose? A professionally drafted Will can address the people, property and responsibilities that matter in your own life.

The case for having one in place is particularly strong here. According to the 2021 Census, 66.9% of households in Bury own their home, well above the England and Wales average of 62.5%, and Bury’s average house price is the third highest of the ten Greater Manchester boroughs, behind only Trafford and Stockport. The borough is also ageing steadily: the proportion of residents aged 65 and over is projected to grow from 18% to 21% by 2040. Alongside that, 10.7% of Bury households are headed by a lone parent. For a Bury homeowner, that combination means directing a lifetime of savings and property exactly as you intend, rather than leaving it to a legal formula that takes no account of your wishes. For a Bury parent, it means the question of who would care for your children if something happened to you needs a clear legal answer, one that only a Will can give.

A Will may be particularly important for unmarried couples, parents, blended families and anyone who wishes to protect a young or vulnerable beneficiary. The right structure depends upon your circumstances, which is why the consultation comes before the drafting.

I provide Will-writing services to residents right across Bury Town, from the town centre and Elton to Fishpool, Freetown, Unsworth and Redvales. With more than 80,000 people living in the town, Bury Town is by far the most populous community in the borough, and the variety of circumstances my clients bring to me reflects that.

Bury Town has a large commuter population, with a significant proportion of residents travelling into Manchester for work while putting down roots here. These are people who own or are buying their homes, who have children they want to protect, and who have financial arrangements that need to be clearly set out in a properly drafted Will. The town also has a diverse community, including a well-established Asian heritage population, part of a borough where the Asian population has grown from 7.2% to 10.6% over the last decade, and cultural and faith-based wishes around inheritance deserve careful and sensitive handling. A Will that fails to reflect those wishes has real consequences for real people.

For those who are older and have spent decades in Bury Town building a life, a home and a financial legacy, a Will is the document that ensures none of that is left to chance.

At Wise Owl Wills, I offer free home visits to clients across Bury Town, as well as telephone and video appointments. I charge fixed fees, provide honest and straightforward advice, and produce professionally drafted Wills tailored to your exact circumstances and wishes.

Ramsbottom has become one of the most desirable addresses in Greater Manchester, attracting professionals relocating from Manchester, families drawn by the town’s outstanding schools and community feel, and older residents who have downsized into the town and its surrounding villages. Each of those groups has real and pressing Will-writing needs, and at Wise Owl Wills I provide the expert, personal service that meets them.

Professionals who have relocated from Manchester bring significant assets with them, including high-value homes, pensions and savings, and many have not yet thought about what happens to those assets if they die without a Will. Families who chose Ramsbottom for its schools and community need to think about guardianship arrangements for their children and how to ensure financial provision is properly made. Those who have downsized here in later life, releasing equity and simplifying their estate, need that estate to pass clearly and efficiently to the people they choose.

At Wise Owl Wills, I offer free home visits to clients in Ramsbottom and the surrounding villages of Summerseat, Holcombe Brook and Greenmount, as well as telephone and video appointments for those who prefer them. I charge fixed fees, give plain and honest advice, and produce professionally drafted documents that protect everything you have worked to build.

Tottington and its surrounding villages, including Greenmount, Hawkshaw, Affetside and Walshaw, form one of the most distinctive communities in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury. Sitting at the edge of the West Pennine Moors, it is a place where people put down roots for the long term, where stone cottages and family homes carry significant value, and where many households have financial arrangements that need to be properly addressed in a Will. At Wise Owl Wills, I help Tottington residents do exactly that.

Tottington’s property market includes stone character cottages, traditional semis and substantial detached homes, many occupying generous plots at the moorland edge. These properties carry real value, and for families who have owned them for years or even decades, the question of what happens to that value after death is not one to leave to chance or to the intestacy rules. Families with dependent children need a Will to appoint a guardian and ensure financial provision is made on the right terms. Couples who own property together, whether married or not, need to understand that ownership alone does not guarantee inheritance, and that only a properly drafted Will gives their wishes legal force. Older homeowners in Tottington and the surrounding hamlets need a Will that ensures a lifetime of ownership and careful saving reaches precisely the people they choose.

At Wise Owl Wills, I offer free home visits to clients in Tottington, Greenmount, Hawkshaw, Affetside and Walshaw, as well as telephone and video appointments. I give plain and honest advice, charge fixed fees and produce professionally drafted Wills that are built around your individual needs and circumstances.

Walmersley and its surrounding hamlets, including Baldingstone, Nangreaves and Limefield, form one of the most sought-after residential areas in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury. The village offers countryside views, highly regarded schools and straightforward access to Bury town centre and the M66, and those qualities have attracted a broad mix of residents whose Will-writing needs vary considerably. At Wise Owl Wills, I understand those needs and I am here to help.

For the families who have recently moved into Walmersley’s new developments, a Will is often the one document that has not yet made it onto the to-do list. A new mortgage, young children and the demands of a busy working life mean that planning ahead can feel like something to come back to. But a Will is what makes sure your home and your family are protected if you never get the chance. For established residents of Walmersley and the nearby hamlets of Baldingstone and Nangreaves, the position is different but the need is no less pressing. These are people who have often owned their homes for many years, accumulated savings and personal assets alongside their property, and built an estate that they want to pass clearly and on their own terms.

At Wise Owl Wills, I offer free home visits to clients across Walmersley, Baldingstone, Nangreaves and Limefield, as well as telephone and video appointments. I provide straightforward advice, charge fixed fees and produce professionally drafted Wills that are built precisely around your needs and your circumstances.

Radcliffe has a proud community identity and a genuinely mixed population, with families of all kinds, long-established residents and a growing number of people buying their first home as the town’s regeneration gathers pace. At Wise Owl Wills, I work with clients across Radcliffe to help them put in place Wills that protect the people they love and the assets they have built.

One of the most important facts about Radcliffe for Will-writing purposes is the significant number of lone parent families in the town. A Will is the only way for a lone parent to nominate a guardian for their children, to record who they trust to step into that role, and to set out how their estate should be used to provide for their family. Without one, those decisions do not simply resolve themselves. They pass to the courts and to the intestacy rules. For homeowners in Radcliffe, whether long-established residents or first-time buyers in one of the new developments transforming the town centre, the position is clear. A home is often the most significant asset a person owns, and a Will is the only reliable way to make sure it goes to the right person.

At Wise Owl Wills, I offer free home visits to clients across Radcliffe, Ainsworth, Radcliffe Bridge and the surrounding area, as well as telephone and video appointments. I provide honest, plain advice, fixed fees and professionally drafted Wills that are built around your individual circumstances, whatever they are.

Whitefield is an established, well-regarded suburb that combines strong Metrolink connectivity to Manchester with a settled, community-minded feel. Average property values in the area are among the highest in the borough, and many Whitefield residents have built up substantial assets over the years, including property, pensions and savings. At Wise Owl Wills, I help those residents make sure their assets are properly protected and pass to the right people.

For professionals living in Whitefield who commute into Manchester, a Will is the practical document that makes sure the home they are buying, the pension they are building and the savings they are accumulating are all addressed if something unexpected happens. Without a Will, English intestacy law makes those decisions for them, and the outcome may not match their intentions or their family’s needs at all. For families with children, a Will is the only mechanism for appointing a guardian and ensuring that financial provision for dependent children is made in exactly the way the parent intends. For the many older residents of Whitefield who have owned their homes for a long time, a Will ensures that a lifetime of careful financial management reaches the people they intended, in the most straightforward and cost-effective way possible.

At Wise Owl Wills, I offer free home visits to clients across Whitefield, Besses o’ th’ Barn, Stand, Hillock and Sunny Bank, as well as telephone and video appointments. I charge fixed fees, give honest and straightforward advice, and produce professionally drafted Wills built around your individual needs.

Prestwich is one of the most valuable property markets in the Bury borough, with a median house price of £278,000 in 2024, up around 80% since 2007, and one of the higher owner-occupation rates in the borough. It is also home to a long-established and significant Jewish community, part of a wider community spanning into neighbouring Salford, for whom faith-based wishes around inheritance often matter as much as the legal mechanics. It is a community that has accumulated significant assets, and it is a community where making a Will is not a luxury or an afterthought but a practical and pressing necessity. At Wise Owl Wills, I provide the clear, professional Will-writing service that Prestwich residents need and deserve.

Prestwich’s high property values mean that the assets at stake in an unplanned estate are considerable. For professional homeowners who have bought into one of north Manchester’s most desirable suburbs, a Will makes sure that their home and their other assets pass clearly and efficiently to the people they choose, rather than through intestacy rules that take no account of their personal wishes or family circumstances. For the large retired population in Prestwich, many of whom own their homes outright and have accumulated pensions, savings and personal assets over many decades, a Will is particularly important. These are people with real estates to protect, and without a valid Will, the law imposes its own distribution, which may not reflect the family arrangements or personal relationships they have carefully built.

At Wise Owl Wills, I offer free home visits to clients across Prestwich, Heaton Park, Sedgley Park and Prestwich Village, as well as telephone and video appointments for those who prefer them. I provide honest and straightforward advice, fixed fees and professionally drafted Wills built precisely around your needs.

A home appointment provides the same opportunity to discuss your circumstances and ask questions as a remote appointment. If you want more than one service, your Will, LPA and Living Will requirements can usually be discussed together.

Which type of Will might you need?

The following summary explains the available services. The final recommendation will depend upon your instructions and the protection you want to achieve.

Service When it may be suitable
Single Will For one person whose wishes can be dealt with through straightforward provisions
Mirror Wills For a couple making separate Wills in broadly corresponding terms.
Trust Will Where additional control or protection may be required, including some blended-family arrangements, young or vulnerable beneficiaries, or carefully structured property planning.
Codicil For a limited amendment to an existing Will where a complete replacement is not the better option.
Letters of Wishes To give non-binding personal guidance to executors or trustees alongside the legal provisions of a Will.
Notice of Severance To change jointly owned property from a joint tenancy to a tenancy in common when this forms part of appropriate estate planning.

Lasting Powers of Attorney and Living Wills

Many clients first contact me because they need a Will and then ask whether they should make arrangements for decisions during their lifetime. I also prepare Lasting Powers of Attorney and Living Wills. These can be arranged alongside your Will or as separate services.

Lasting Powers of Attorney

Blue illustration of a Lasting Power of Attorney document with a pen and official seal

A Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to appoint trusted people to make particular decisions or act for you. A Property and Financial Affairs LPA can cover matters such as bank accounts, bills, investments and property. A Health and Welfare LPA can cover care, medical treatment and where you live, but it can be used for a particular decision only when you lack capacity to make that decision yourself.

Lasting Power of Attorney fixed fees

Choose a Property and Financial Affairs LPA, a Health and Welfare LPA, or both, and give people you trust the authority to act if you can no longer make particular decisions yourself.

Office of the Public Guardian registration fee: £92 for each LPA, payable to the OPG when you register your LPA. A reduction or exemption may be available depending upon the donor’s income or benefits.

Living Wills

Illustrated Living Will document with a pen, signature and blue seal

A Living Will, formally called an Advance Decision to Refuse Treatment, records specified medical treatments that you wish to refuse in defined future circumstances if you cannot make or communicate the decision at that time. It serves a different purpose from a Health and Welfare LPA, although the two documents are sometimes considered together.

Living Wills fixed fees

Choose the Will that provides the right protection for you and your family. Every Will is personally prepared for your circumstances, with clear guidance and a fixed fee agreed before drafting begins.

Yes. I offer free home visits to clients across the Metropolitan Borough of Bury. Whether you live in Bury Town, Ramsbottom, Tottington, Walmersley, Radcliffe, Whitefield or Prestwich, I can come to you at a time that suits you. A home visit means you can discuss your wishes, ask questions and give your instructions in the comfort and privacy of your own home, with no need to travel or arrange childcare. If a home visit isn’t convenient, telephone and video appointments are also available, so you can arrange a professionally drafted Will without leaving home. To book your free home visit, call me on 0161 524 1033 or complete my  contact form.

Yes. Your instructions can be taken by telephone or video, and you’ll receive the same personal discussion and tailored drafting as you would during a home visit. I’ll also explain exactly how your completed Will needs to be signed and witnessed to be legally valid, since that’s the one part of the process you’ll need to arrange yourself wherever you are.

A Will records what should happen to your estate after your death. A Lasting Power of Attorney appoints people you trust to make decisions or act on your behalf during your lifetime, if you’re ever unable to do so yourself. A Living Will (formally an Advance Decision to Refuse Treatment) records specific medical treatments you would refuse in defined future circumstances. Many clients arrange a Will on its own; others choose to put an LPA or Living Will in place at the same time. Find out more about Lasting Powers of Attorney and Living Wills.

A Single Will costs £130 and Mirror Wills for a couple cost £200. A detailed Will including a trust costs £200, or £300 for detailed mirror Wills for a couple. I’ll explain which option suits your circumstances and confirm the total fee before you decide whether to go ahead. The price shown is the total fee, no VAT is added.

I normally aim to provide your draft within seven days of receiving your complete instructions and everything needed to prepare it. If your circumstances are more complex or extra information is required, I’ll explain this to you and let you know what to expect.

A Will and an LPA deal with different situations, so it’s worth thinking about both rather than treating them as alternatives. Your Will only takes effect after your death. A Lasting Power of Attorney allows people you choose to make decisions or act on your behalf while you’re still alive, if you’re ever unable to manage your own affairs. You can arrange either on its own, or both together at the same time as your Will.

No. You don’t need a solicitor to make a Will in Bury. In England and Wales, Wills can be drafted by a professional will-writer who isn’t a solicitor, and choosing an experienced independent will-writing service can offer a more personal, flexible and cost-effective alternative to using a traditional law firm. I founded Wise Owl Wills after being called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1999, bringing 27 years of experience in the legal profession. What matters when choosing who drafts your Will isn’t whether they’re a solicitor, but whether they have the knowledge, experience and attention to detail to produce a document that’s legally valid, clearly expressed and genuinely tailored to your circumstances. The Will-writing industry in England and Wales isn’t currently regulated in the same way as solicitors, which makes choosing a will-writer with a strong track record and demonstrable legal expertise all the more important. To arrange a free consultation, call me on 0161 524 1033 or complete my  contact form.

No. Unmarried partners have no automatic right to inherit under English law, regardless of how long they have lived together, whether they share a home, or whether they have children together. There is no such thing as a common law spouse in English law, and this remains one of the most common and most costly misconceptions about inheritance. If your partner dies without a Will, their estate passes under the intestacy rules to their blood relatives, which could mean their children, parents or siblings, even if you have lived together for many years and share a home. For homeowners in Bury, where property values are among the higher end for Greater Manchester, this can have serious and immediate consequences. An unmarried surviving partner could find themselves with no legal right to remain in a shared home that was owned solely in their partner’s name, and no entitlement to any of the assets built up together. The only way to protect an unmarried partner in Bury is to make a valid Will that expressly names them as a beneficiary. Find out more in my guide to unmarried partner inheritance rights. To protect your partner with a professionally drafted Will, call me on 0161 524 1033 or complete my  contact form.

Yes. Appointing a guardian for your children is one of the most important things a Will can do, and it is something every parent in Bury with children under 18 should consider carefully. A guardian is the person who would take on legal responsibility for caring for your children if you were to die before they reach adulthood. Without a Will that names a guardian, that decision is left to the courts, which may not reach the same conclusion you would have done. This is particularly relevant in Bury, where 10.7% of households are headed by a lone parent. For a lone parent, a Will that appoints a guardian may be the single most important document they ever sign, because without one there is no legal record of their wishes for their children’s care. It is equally important for couples, whether married or unmarried: if both parents were to die, a Will ensures the person you have chosen to raise your children is clearly identified and legally recognised in that role. Find out more in my guide to appointing guardians for your children. To make a Will that protects your children, call me on 0161 524 1033 or complete my  contact form.

Yes. I regularly help clients in Bury with Wills for blended families, and it is an area where getting the drafting right really matters. A blended family, where one or both partners have children from a previous relationship alongside any children they may have together, faces Will-writing challenges that a standard mirror Will is often not designed to address. One of the most common risks is what is sometimes called sideways disinheritance. This happens when everything passes to a surviving spouse or partner on the first death, and that surviving partner then remarries or changes their Will, with the result that children from the first relationship inherit nothing. A properly structured Will, often including a trust arrangement, can prevent this from happening while still ensuring a surviving partner is properly provided for during their lifetime. I take the time to understand your full family picture before drafting anything, so that every member of your family is properly considered and your wishes are clearly and legally recorded. Find out more in my guide to writing a Will for a blended family. To discuss your family’s circumstances, call me on 0161 524 1033 or complete my  contact form.

Yes. I can help clients in Bury make provision in their Will for a beneficiary who is vulnerable, disabled or unable to manage their own financial affairs. This requires particular care. If a vulnerable or disabled person inherits money or assets directly, that inheritance can affect their entitlement to means-tested benefits such as Universal Credit, Housing Benefit or Personal Independence Payment, and can inadvertently leave them worse off rather than better. The solution in many cases is a discretionary trust written into the Will. Rather than leaving assets directly to a vulnerable beneficiary, the assets are held in trust by people you appoint as trustees, who then use those assets for the beneficiary’s benefit in a way that doesn’t automatically affect their benefits entitlement. I take the time to understand the specific needs and circumstances of your beneficiary before advising on the most appropriate way to structure your Will. Find out more in my guide to protecting vulnerable beneficiaries in a Will. To discuss your circumstances, call me on 0161 524 1033 or complete my  contact form.

Yes, and it is one of the most important reasons to make a Will. If you own a home in Bury and die without a Will, you die intestate, meaning the law, not you, decides who inherits your property. Bury has one of the higher rates of homeownership in Greater Manchester: 66.9% of households own their home according to the 2021 Census, well above the England and Wales average of 62.5%. For many Bury residents, their property is the most valuable asset they will ever own, and without a Will, that asset does not automatically pass to the person you would choose. If you are unmarried, your partner has no automatic right to inherit under English law, regardless of how long you have lived together. If you are married, the rules are more complicated than many people assume, particularly where an estate includes a property of significant value alongside other assets. A properly drafted Will allows you to decide who receives your home, appoint the executors you trust, and give your family the clarity they need at an already difficult time. Read more in my article on what happens to a family home without a Will. To make a Will that protects your Bury property, call me on 0161 524 1033 or complete my  contact form.

It depends on the total value of your estate, but it is a question more Bury homeowners need to ask than many might expect. Inheritance Tax is currently charged at 40% on the value of an estate above the available tax-free threshold. For most individuals, the standard nil rate band is £325,000. If you are leaving your home to your children or grandchildren, you may also be entitled to the residence nil rate band, which can add a further £175,000 to your threshold. For a married couple or civil partners, these allowances can be combined, meaning a joint estate of up to £1 million may pass free of Inheritance Tax in the right circumstances. However, those thresholds can be reached more quickly than people realise. Bury’s average house price is the third highest in Greater Manchester, and in Prestwich specifically the median house price reached £278,000 in 2024, up around 80% since 2007. When savings, pensions, investments and personal possessions are added to the value of a family home, a total estate that triggers an Inheritance Tax liability is not uncommon, particularly for older residents who have owned their property for many years and seen its value grow considerably. Inheritance Tax planning is not only for the very wealthy. It is a practical consideration for any Bury homeowner whose total estate, including property, may approach or exceed the available thresholds. Read more in my guide to Inheritance Tax. To discuss your estate, call me on 0161 524 1033 or complete my  contact form.

This is one of the most frequently raised concerns among homeowners in Bury, and it is easy to understand why. With Bury’s average house price among the highest in Greater Manchester, and a growing older population (the proportion of residents aged 65 and over is projected to rise from 18% to 21% by 2040), the prospect of a family home being used to meet care home fees is a significant and understandable worry. It is important to be clear from the outset that there are legitimate and well-established ways to plan ahead, and there are also arrangements that can cause serious problems if not handled correctly. In England, if you require residential care and your assets, including your home, exceed the current means-tested threshold, you will generally be expected to contribute to the cost of that care. One of the most commonly used planning steps is a property trust written into a Will, which can protect a share of a jointly owned property for children or other beneficiaries after the first partner dies, while ensuring the surviving partner can remain in the home for the rest of their life. Attempting to give away assets deliberately to avoid care fees can be treated as deprivation of assets by a local authority, which is why taking professional advice at the right time is essential. Read more in my guide to protecting your home from care fees. To discuss your circumstances, call me on 0161 524 1033 or complete my  contact form.

You may well do, and it is worth reviewing your Will sooner rather than later if it has not been looked at for a number of years or if your circumstances have changed since it was made. A Will reflects your life as it was when it was drafted. If your life has moved on, your Will may no longer say what you would want it to say, and in some cases it may no longer be legally effective at all. Marriage or entering a civil partnership automatically revokes an existing Will in England and Wales, unless it was made in contemplation of that marriage. Divorce, separation, the birth of a child or grandchild, a significant change in your financial circumstances, or the purchase or sale of a property should all prompt a review. For many residents of Prestwich and Whitefield in particular, where property values have risen considerably in recent years, an older Will may also fail to take account of an estate that has grown in value and may now benefit from more careful planning. Read more in my guide to updating your Will. To have your existing Will reviewed or to make a new one, call me on 0161 524 1033 or complete my  contact form.

Without a Will, what happens to your share of a business is decided by the intestacy rules in the same way as the rest of your estate, and that is rarely the outcome a business owner would choose. Your share could pass to family members who have no interest or involvement in running the business, which can create serious difficulties for surviving business partners as well as for your own family, particularly where the business is a significant part of your estate’s value. A Will lets you deal with this properly. Depending on how your business is structured and owned, that might mean leaving your share to a specific person, making provision for a business partner to buy out your share, or coordinating your Will with any partnership agreement, shareholders’ agreement or cross-option agreement already in place. It’s also worth checking whether your business qualifies for Business Relief, which can reduce the Inheritance Tax payable on qualifying business assets, since this is often overlooked until it is too late to plan around it properly. I work with a number of business owners and self-employed clients across the Bury borough, and I take the time to understand how your business fits into your wider estate before drafting anything. This is one of the most important and most complex Will-writing questions I am asked by clients in Bury, and it is one that requires careful thought and properly structured drafting to get right. The central challenge is balancing two sets of competing needs: providing for a current partner during their lifetime while making sure that children from an earlier relationship are not overlooked or unintentionally disinherited when the estate eventually passes on. The most common risk is what is known as sideways disinheritance. If you leave everything to your current partner and they later remarry, change their own Will or simply outlive you by many years, your children from your first relationship may ultimately inherit nothing, even where there was never any intention to exclude them. The solution for many clients in this situation is a trust-based Will, sometimes called a life interest trust or a property trust. This allows you to provide for your current partner, for example by allowing them to remain in the family home or benefit from income during their lifetime, while ring-fencing the underlying assets so that they pass to your chosen beneficiaries, including your children from a previous relationship, when the time comes.
