Mirror Wills

Two matching Will documents with seals and a pen, representing Mirror Wills for couples in Greater Manchester

A pair of Wills, substantially identical in their terms, most commonly made by couples who want to deal with their shared assets and provide for their family in the same way. Mirror Wills are two separate legal documents, one for each person, which simply reflect each other’s shared wishes.

Who Mirror Wills are right for

Mirror Wills are usually the right choice if you recognise your situation in one of the following:

  • You are a couple who wants matching provisions, most often leaving everything to each other and then to your children.
  • You want two independent legal documents that happen to mirror each other, rather than a single joint document.
  • You are in a second marriage or later relationship and want to think through how children from a previous relationship are provided for.

If you and your partner want to protect children from prior relationships in different ways from each other, a straightforward Mirror Will may not be the best fit on its own. In that situation, we would usually discuss adding a trust arrangement to one or both Wills, so your wishes are properly reflected rather than forced into an identical structure. We will always talk this through with you before you commit to anything.

What is included

We offer a personal consultation with both of you, held at your home, or by telephone or video call. Both documents are prepared together, and we make sure your provisions are consistent with each other and that nothing is missed on either side.

Your completed Wills are delivered within 7 days of us receiving full instructions from you both. An express service is also available if you need your Wills in place more quickly.

How much do Mirror Wills cost

Basic Mirror Wills cost £200 for the pair.

If you need a trust arrangement included in one or both Wills, the cost is £300 for the pair.

If you are not sure which applies to you, our Trust Wills page explains when a trust is worth considering, or you can simply ask us during your free consultation.

Do we both need to attend the same appointment

Ideally, you should attend together, but this is not essential.

Many couples prefer to attend together, since it is often quicker and easier to talk through shared decisions in one conversation. However, if it suits you better to be seen separately, we can arrange that instead, whether by home visit, telephone or video call.
